Best Buy Receives 2008 ENERGY STAR Excellence in Appliance Retailing Award
MINNEAPOLIS-April 1, 2008-Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE: BBY) has received the 2008 ENERGY STAR Excellence in Appliance Retailing Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in honor of its outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency.
“An increasing number of our customers are asking about the energy efficiency of the appliances and electronics they purchase from Best Buy,” said Thad Carlson, senior domain planner, Home Life Customer Solutions Team, Best Buy. “The partnership between Best Buy and ENERGY STAR helps make it possible for us to approach energy efficiency as an unmet customer need – it’s a responsible extension of our customer-centric business model.”
This past year, Best Buy developed ENERGY STAR-focused “eLearning” training programs that help ensure its sales associates are able to answer customer questions about energy efficiency and environmental savings. The DOE and the EPA now provide these same style training programs for use by other ENERGY STAR partners.
More than 50 percent of all appliances available at Best Buy are ENERGY STAR-qualified, as well as a growing number of products in other categories, like home theater and computers. Combined with Best Buy’s retail industry-leading recycling programs, the company helps consumers make smart environmental decisions with appliances and consumer electronics.
