How do I apply for a Best Buy Scholarship?

Scholarship applications are available online at www.BestBuy.com/Scholarships. All applications must be submitted online between January 2 and February 15. Recipients will be announced in May.

 

Who is eligible to apply for a Best Buy Scholarship?

Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors living within 75 miles of a Best Buy store who will be attending a college, university or vocational school located in the U.S. or Puerto Rico beginning in the fall immediately following graduation.

 

How are scholarship recipients selected?

Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievements, volunteerism efforts, and work experience.

 

How many scholarships are awarded and what is the value of the scholarship?

Best Buy Children's Foundation will award 1,500 scholarships of $1,500 each. An additional 51 scholarships of $10,000 will also be awarded.

 

Are Best Buy Scholarships renewable?

No. Scholarships are for one year of college study only and cannot be renewed for additional years.

 

Can I submit a paper application?

No. All applications must be submitted electronically by 11:59 p.m. ET on February 15, 2008.

 

When will I be notified?

Only finalists will be notified. Finalists will be notified by email in mid March and will need to submit additional information. Recipients will be announced online at www.BestBuy.com/Scholarships by mid May.

 

Where do I send my transcript?

Do NOT send a transcript at this time. Finalists will be notified in mid March and will be required to submit additional information about their volunteer community service and work experience, a high school transcript of grades and a publicity release form.

 

If I'm a recipient, how will I receive my scholarship?

Scholarship America will make checks payable to the school that the recipient will be attending in the fall. Checks will be mailed to the recipient's home on August 15.

 

What do I do if there is no Best Buy store near me?

If there is not a Best Buy store located within 75 miles of your home you are not eligible to apply.

 

We have four Best Buy stores in our city. Can I apply for all of them?

No. While the store locator may identify more than one Best Buy store, you can only indicate the two nearest stores to your home address.

 

My parent is in the military and I have an AP address. What do I do?

If you are currently residing outside the United States or Puerto Rico, you are not eligible to apply.

 

When will Best Buy announce the names of the recipients?

Best Buy will post the names of the recipients online at www.BestBuy.com/Scholarships at the conclusion of the program in May 2008.
